Gloucestershire Your Green Future, 2010
The first Your Green Future event was held on the 29th and 30th September 2010 at Pittville Pump Rooms,
Hundreds of students from Years 11 - 13 from 18 Gloucestershire schools attended. At an introductory session leading business personnel informed students about key green issues. All students then attended four event areas.
Three of these were interactive workshops led by experts in which students learnt about the growth of the green economy and about the wide range of innovative, ambitious and effective initiatives which work towards environmental sustainability, cutting greenhouse gas emissions, implementing green practices and achieving economic growth. The fourth was an exhibition area where students were able to gain advice on universities, apprenticeships and careers. For further details about these session see the individual event area pages.
Feedback
Feedback was gathered from students, teachers, mentors and exhibitors through a variety of questionnaires. Overall the event made for enjoyable and memorable learning and brought about attitude changes, all round. Students went away with the appreciation that the green economy is a reality and it covers a far wider spectrum than they expected.
- 90% of young people left better informed about opportunities for green careers.
- 100% of teachers had themselves learnt from the event.
- 100% of teachers wanted to be invited to another event.
- 95% of exhibitors and mentors wanted to be invited to another event.
