A unique experience to inspire the next generation of engineers. I most enjoyed hearing feedback from student Dragons and amazed by their imagination.Warwick Manufacturing Group
2018 is the Year of Engineering
A government campaign, celebrating the world and wonder of engineering. Not enough young people, especially young girls, think it’s a world for them and as a result, the industry is struggling to recruit future talent. What’s more, young people are missing out on the chance to make a positive difference to both their futures, that of the planet and everything that calls it home.
Your Green Future has always sought to tackle the engineering skills gap and has therefore been busy supporting the campaign. For instance, at our Solihull event this March over 15 engineers supported our workshops. This included stiff competition between Warwick Manufacturing Group, Jaguar Land Rover and Network Rail as they went head to head to win the student Dragon’s £1 million, pitching concepts for driverless cars, to virtual driving experiences to building a railway from ‘Wild’ harvested Plastics. Whilst in the Future City workshop, students worked with engineers from Environment Agency and Balfour Beatty to redevelop the HS2 interchange site at Arden Cross, looking at housing, business, recreation and transport.
The impression made by these engineers can be seen in our evaluation with 88% of 296 students leaving the event with a better understanding about what engineering is, and 70% saying that working with the businesses had made them think more about a career in engineering.
